Sources and lag. Prices are USDA AMS Shipping Point (FOB) reports, covering 2 Jan 2020 – 16 Oct 2026. The latest FOB report is dated 16 Oct 2026; movement is current through the same date. USDA does not quote every district/pack combination every day, so day-over-day compares each series against its own most recent prior quote and labels the gap in days rather than assuming yesterday.

Known gaps. Canada has no Shipping Point price coverage — terminal-market data is the only route to Ontario greenhouse pricing and has not been loaded yet, so Canadian pricing is blank by design rather than by omission. Movement data covers every tracked commodity, not bell pepper alone. Domestic movement files a day behind the import feed, so the crossings snapshot is dated to the last day on which every reporting source had actually filed. Weather, current terminal pricing and the port-by-port crossings tables all live on Today's View only.

Data normalization. Four schema inconsistencies in the USDA export are corrected: pepper color moved from the
variety column (2020) to properties (2021+) and changed capitalization mid-2024; district names were
renamed over time (Santa Maria ↔ Santa Maria District; five Imperial/Coachella variants), so raw districts map to stable regions
with the original string preserved; size labels were uppercase in 2020 only. Without these, roughly two-thirds of the history
silently disappears from any filtered series. Fourth: chile peppers crossing at Nogales were quoted
per pound through May 2025 and per carton from December 2025, with the package column reading
“1 1/9 bushel cartons” throughout — the per-pound era is converted at that pack’s 25 lb weight so one
line means one thing end to end.
